Try the New Web Branch Early

new web branch dashboard
The dashboard on the new Web Branch
As a special opportunity to readers of this blog, you are invited to try the new Web Branch early. We are hard at work putting the finishing touches on the new site. It has been our biggest and most ambitious project to date and we are excited to bring it to you. We would love to get your feedback prior to the full roll-out to members in late October and early November.

To start using the new Web Branch today, click on the link at the end of this post. You will be directed to the typical Web Branch log in screen (that will be updated later). Upon logging in, you will be redirected to the new Web Branch. Every time you sign on in the future, you will also be automatically directed to the new Web Branch.

If, after trying the new Web Branch, you decide you'd prefer to continue using the old version, you can downgrade using the button on the Profile & Settings page. We will be turning off the old Web Branch in early 2015.

Once you have some time with the site, we welcome your feedback. Please send us a secure message with your thoughts or concerns (or what you like!). We would especially like to hear from you if you run into any errors or issues that stop you from completing a task. While the site is mostly complete, we do have the opportunity to make small improvements--and we will be actively fixing bugs. We will also continue to improve the site regularly going forward beyond the launch.

We are so excited to bring this new Web Branch experience to you. We have taken years of your feedback and combined it with the state-of-the-art in web design to make a Web Branch that works great on desktop and laptop computers along with mobile devices and tablets.

Upgrade to the new Web Branch

  1. So far, so good! However, it would be nice to see my estimated balance (the one that includes pending transactions) on the dashboard. I believe the old branch has this one beat on that feature. I know all you have to do is click on Premium Checking (or whichever) to see the estimated balance, but the whole point of a dashboard is to have all the info. at a quick glance.

    1. The estimated (pending) balance that is part of pending items is available on the history page for your accounts. We do have plans to better expose the pending balance in a future Web Branch update. In the meantime, the way we are treating the pending balance has not changed from old Web Branch to the new one.

    2. I would agree with the first user's post. It would be nice on the dashboard to see your projected balance with pending transactions. This is my favorite feature of Web Branch, to be able to input and account for my anticipated expenditures and recurring monthly payments. I understand the information is still available, it just would be nice for it to be visible at initial login on the main landing page.

    3. PS - Forgot to say, overall, I love the addition of the dashboard. I like being able to customize the widgets. I love the 30 day spending graphic chart with quick click to detail. It is easier to find reports and other features. Functionality is sleek and relatively intuitive. Feels like an upgrade, but is still familiar enough to navigate. I like the soft release and the ability to try it out before a forced transition. Overall, nice work!

    4. We will be creating a projected future balance widget using Pending Items in the future. We agree it is a great feature and we would like to make it better and easier to use so more members can benefit.

  2. Oh I'm so stupid. Delete my last comment. I see now that the estimated balance shows up on the dashboard page--it's just on the left side of the screen under Premium Checking, not in the list of transactions. Ok so I love the new branch, no complaints whatsoever! Please disregard both of my comments!

    1. Actually, the neither of the two balances you are referring to is the pending balance. It is the current balance and the available balance. The available balance does take into account adjustments to your balance our banking system generates--things like check holds or debit card purchases that haven't posted. However, it does not take into account items you may have manually entered as part of Pending Items.

We do have plans to better incorporate the pending balance with a future update. We did not want to introduce that change along with the big change to the design of the site. It will likely be a dashboard widget and also include alerts.

  3. It doesn't work with IE8.

    1. We will see if we can get it working with Internet Explorer 8 (IE8).

We want Web Branch to work for as many members as possible. However, it is difficult for us to support older browsers and IE8 is used by only 3% of our users and has an end of life just over a year away. The amount of extra code and testing to support IE8 will determine how feasible it is to add support for that browser.

The old Web Branch will be available into early 2015 while we determine how to address issues like this.

    2. if you do your online banking using IE8, you probably shouldn't do online banking.

  4. The sleeker design is appreciated but the constant activity on the screen for no reason other than to be flashy needs to go: Make it a static header (don't switch to the blue header when scrolling), get rid of the shaking when you rearrange sections.

Users need to be able to select a "home" location. I'd rather be able to login to the account summary if I chose to do so. The dashboard has a lot of information I don't want to see when I login, even though I may decide I want to see it while using Webbranch. Additionally, are there plans to allow for adding/removing dashboard parts? A dashboard should be something users customize to see the information they want to see immediately when they login, not information decided for them by someone else.

Bring back the functionality to make a payment or transfer funds directly from the account summary screen. This was one of the easiest to use features of the old site and there's no reason to make it harder (measured in number of clicks) to perform these basic tasks.

Also, it doesn't seem to have correctly migrated the paperless settings. Do users need to opt-in for paperless again after upgrading to the new platform?

All in, though, I'd stick with it before the mandatory change if those deal-breakers were resolved.

    1. For the most part your comments have to do with what is new and different from the old Web Branch. Please give the new site some time and you will find many of your concerns don't seem as significant.

The dashboard is definitely version 1.0. We have plans to add more widgets in the future which will likely dictate the ability to add and remove them. Right now, there aren't enough of them to justify removing them. Just move the ones you don't find as useful to the bottom.

Each widget is customizable. Take some time to rearrange them and configure each to your choosing.

Utilizing Favorite Accounts is the best way to use the new Web Branch. Then you have a mini account summary that follows you to every page of the site.

The paperless settings issue was a bug that has been fixed. There is no need to opt back in on the new Web Branch.

Please continue to use the new Web Branch and see how your opinions change over time. We will continue to fix issues and address feedback.

Thanks for taking the time to provide this feedback!

    2. Sorry, my opinion has not changed. I have astigmatism and the graphic interface's constant color-shifting and movements give me headaches. It's disappointing to see genuine feedback dismissed as a desire to maintain the status quo, which I assure you is not my desire. No major bank has such a flashy website: Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One, PNC...I've reviewed them all as I look for an escape from this poor decision.

    3. Wow, I can't believe how dismissive Eric is to your legitimate feedback. That's a clear indication they didn't consider user requirements and got swept up in animating everything. As I long-time fan of UWCU's original web branch, the "new" all-flash, no features redesign is a huge step back. Very disappointed.

    4. We have not been at all dismissive to feedback. Based on member input, we have added back in features that were originally not in the new design like multi-pay, hiding accounts and additional download formats. We are also working on adding back in the ability to edit multiple history items (categories, labels). With these major improvements, I have trouble with the position that the new site is all flash and no features. There is no functionality that didn't carry over from the old site. It looks different, and that is the crux of the feedback.

Also, keep in mind this feedback came in just days after launching the new site and the follow up was just a few weeks later. Changes this big take time for everyone to adjust to (including those who did the development work). That is a big reason why we have kept the old Web Branch available to allow for improvements and for members to come over more gradually.

We did not set out to create a flashy web site. Any movement or animation was done for a purpose to convey clarity or remove clutter. There are always going to be users who don't like certain design choices. It is impossible to change something and please everyone at the same time. Please continue to give the new Web Branch a chance. We will continue to listen and do what we can to make the new Web Branch the best experience for everyone.

  5. I had a choice to view or download a statement. I chose view. The statement downloaded to my smartphone. When the icon at the top of my phone showed the download complete, the whirling loading symbol continued to whirl on the screen. I would like a true view statement option and the whirling loading symbol to stop when a download is complete.

    1. Please send us a secure message with the version of the operating system you are using. We can help you with your settings so it should work as you are describing. If we discover there is something we can adjust, we will also look into that. We need more detail from you to assist. Thanks!

    2. I have sent the requested information via secure message. Then I used my tablet to try to view a statement in the new web branch. I tapped the view option and the statement downloaded to Adobe Reader in blink of an eye speed. Only a notification appeared to let me know the download was complete. There was no whirling load symbol like on my smartphone. I am so happy the new web branch has for the first time allowed me to view a statement on my tablet! Thanks for the new compatibility between web branch and my tablet and letting me upgrade early! I am not sure though why a view option results in a download.

    3. It sounds like you are using both an Android phone and tablet. The differences you are seeing in the two have to do with Android since you are using the same Web Branch on both. There might be settings to have your statement load in the browser rather than in Adobe Reader. Also, using the Chrome browser rather than the built in Android browser could also resolve this for you.

Also, I wanted to point out your comment about getting your statement on a tablet. That is just one of the many examples of why we had to create a new Web Branch. We want our members to have the best (and same) experience on whatever device they choose.

    4. I did go to web branch through the Chrome browser on my smartphone. After tapping the view option to view a statement, I see now that it downloaded to Adobe Reader within the POLARIS Viewer app. I registered tonight in the POLARIS Viewer app and then tried to view the statement again in web branch. This time it downloaded as quickly and easily as when I used my tablet last night and had no whirling loading symbol like it did the first time I tried it on my phone. I still don't know why a view choice results in a download rather than a view though.

  6. I took a look at the new web branch on a laptop, tablet, and phone tonight. I really enjoyed using it on all three devices. It looks very nice and was easy to use. I don't see any reason to switch back. Fantastic work everyone! Thank you :)

  7. Nice job - very clean and intuitive. Here's a request: A credit card in Favorites displays Balance, Available and Payment. Please have the Payment display the amount due per the selection (last statement balance) I have chosen for Autopay. Currently it shows the minimum amount due without denoting it as the minimum. And seeing what account it is scheduled to Autopay from would help even more since I can determine right from the main screen if I have enough in that account to cover the upcoming payment.

    1. Thanks! We will add your feedback on Autopay in the Favorite Accounts to our future enhancements list.

    1. Dashboards are personal preferences - I'd prefer not to see it at all. To each their own, except in the new Webbranch, I suppose...

      Delete
    2. Please stay tuned! We will continue to improve the dashboard and make it more customizable over time.

In the meantime, most of the widgets can be adjusted to only include the accounts or number of items to make it more useful for your situation. Just click the ... icon.

      Delete
    3. Not the complaint - the tech industry is drooling over dashboards and I find them useless. Even after clicking the ... the new site requires at least one item to be selected. Give us the "x" to clear everything, or the option to default on login to a different part of the site.

  10. I'm really liking the new web branch! Are there any plans to bring back the feature to select multiple web payees at once? Right now if you have to process each web pay one at a time. Also how about the ability to tie the web pay to the biller so you can receive new bill totals and due dates. Right now you have to rely on the paper bill or setup another login with the biller to get email notifications when a bill is due.

    1. Yes, we are working on adding multi pay back for larger screens. We chose to leave it out and see if members missed it. We have heard loud and clear that is a must have feature.

We continue to monitor adding electronic billing to Web Branch. We do not have plans to offer it in the near future.

  11. The new branch is pretty, but it's not as easy to use as the old one. Categorizing check transactions is quicker and easier on the old Web Branch. Just mouseover a check to view the image, then click the category, submenus open with a mouseover and you click to pick the right one; that's only two clicks. Now I have to click to open the check image, click to open the categories, click the subcategory and click the final category, then page down (on my 1280 x 800 laptop screen) and click save; that's five clicks plus a keystroke. Categorizing other transactions went from two clicks to three. This change alone will keep me from updating to the new Web Branch. In addition to this, I can now only view about 10 transactions per screen where I could view 15 in the old branch. I'm hoping this isn't a forced upgrade anytime soon.

  12. After switching to the new branch, my money link transfer does not work. I use that for requesting rent payments from my tenants. When they try sending me the money they get an error message that says, "General Web Branch Error." Now when I switch back to the old Branch, after resending the tenants a new money link they still receive that error message.

  13. I really don't like the new design. I use it mostly on an old version of IE because my company uses that as its only web option which I understand is not your top priority, but I also use it on my phone and I really hate the odd boxes as link nodes, I find it looks messy and it's hard to use.

  14. Count me as one who prefers the old design as well. While the new one is more visually appealing, I like the smaller text and spreadsheet like view of the old version better. I can see much more information on the screen at a time with the old one. This one takes up a lot of real estate to do the same thing. Hopefully we'll still be able to use the old one for a little while yet. Nonetheless, I'm appreciative that UWCU provides a top notch online banking app to its members. Well done!

  15. Count me as one who prefers the old design as well.
    Visually disturbing.
the important information is in small text and gray on white, the headers are bright and colored :-(
Way less information per page (do you intend to place advertisement and get more clicks, that is the pont of multiple pages?)
So called customization is ridiculous. You have to keep at least one of each item per every category of unwanted stuff on your page. What is the point?

Are you trying to move customers away from web branch or from UWCU in general?

  16. One thing that I don't like about the new web branch (even though its been out for a year) is that I don't like that it doesn't show what I bought. I'm pretty sure in the old version when I clicked on a transaction it would pop up telling me what I bought and how much everything that I bought was, like a receipt. Now I have to go in and type if manually when I get the receipt so that when I go back later I know what I spent my money on.

    1. That is a cool feature that is on our list to consider adding down the road. However, you must be thinking of another site since we have not had that functionality.
